drape.
Asix-foot-tallstatueofaleeringfour-armedgargoyle
standsagainstthebackwall.Oneofitsarmshasbroken
offandliesonthefloorinfrontofit,itshandcurledinto
atightfist.Theotherthreearmshavetheirclawed
handsopeninsuchawayastosuggestthey’remeant
toholdsomething.Carvedintothewallabovethestatue
isariddle:ThreeIneedThenthreemoreThreemorestillOpensthedoorThegargoylestatueisimpervioustodamageandspells,
butitsbroken-offarmisnot.Ifthreegemstonesareplacedin
thethreeopenhandsofthestatue,thehandsmagicallyclose
intofiststhatcrushthegemstonestopowder.Thestatue’s
handsthenopenagain.Ifthisexerciseisperformedtwice
more,sothatninegemstonesintotalarecrushed,thehandof
thebroken-offarmopensandafist-sizedrubyappearsinit.
TherubyistheEyeofZaltec,whichisteleportedfromarea
62 Dbythesacrificeofthegems.Iftherubyispluckedfrom
thegargoyle’shand,thestatuemagicallyopensitsmouthand
exhalesacloudofsoporificgasthatfillstheeastern 15 feetof
thehall.Atthesametime,thesecretdooratthewestendof
thehallwayslidesopen,andthestonejuggernautinarea 62 D
rollsdownthecorridor.
Eachcreatureinthegascloudthatisnotimmunetothe
poisonedconditionmustsucceedonaDC 15 Constitution
savingthroworfallunconsciousfor 1 hour.Theeffectendson
