Three basic skills are tested on this exam. First, the ability to recall knowledge forms the basis for
approximately 20 percent of the questions. This means that your ability to remember specific facts,
your mastery of terminology, and your comfort with straightforward knowledge will be examined on
approximately 17 of the questions.

The second skill tested is your ability to apply your chemistry knowledge to unfamiliar situations.
This is the basis for approximately 45 percent of the exam (38 questions). These questions test how
well you understand concepts and can reformulate information into equivalent forms. They also
test how well you can solve problems, particularly those dealing with mathematical relationships.
