Solve the second equation for y by adding y and subtracting 5 from both
sides to get y = x − 5. Now, substitute x − 5 for y in the first equation to get
x^2 + (x − 5)^2 = 25. Multiply to get x^2 + x^2 − 10 x + 25 = 25. Combine like terms
and subtract 25 from both sides to get 2 x^2 − 10 x = 0. Factor the left-hand
side to get 2 x(x − 5) = 0. So x = 0 or x = 5. When x = 0, y = 0 − 5 = −5. When x
= 5, y = 5 − 5 = 0. The points of intersection are (0,−5) and (5,0).
