How to Use This Chapter

Maybe you know all the algebra you need. Find out by taking the Algebra
Diagnostic Test. The ten Diagnostic questions are typical of those on the
Mathematics subject tests. Check your answers using the answer key
following the test. No matter how you score, don’t worry! The answer key also
shows where to find a detailed explanation for each question. The “Find Your
Study Plan” section that follows the test will suggest next steps based on your
performance on the Diagnostic.

FIND YOUR LEVEL

How you use this chapter really depends on how much time you have to prep.
Find the level and pace that works best for you.

Standard Plan. No matter how well you do on the Algebra Diagnostic Test, go
on and read everything in this chapter and do all the practice problems.

Shortcut:   If  you can answer  at  least   seven   of  the ten questions   on  the Algebra

Diagnostic  Test    correctly,  then    you already know    the material    in  this    chapter

well    enough  to  move    on.

Panic Plan. The material in this chapter is vital. If you can’t get most of the
questions on the Algebra Diagnostic Test right, you should study this chapter
—even if it’s just two days before test day.
