Olivia Faye

pecial thanks to the super-
helpful staff at Pennywell Farm
(www.pennywellfarm.co.uk; tel
01364 642023) for separating
a pair of micro-pigs from their
mother and taking them to a brighter and
airier location for photography. Here our
two readers could get to know each animal
better, and capture them in a more relaxed
setting. Both pigs were around six weeks old,

and ahead of being sold on to members
of the public, neither had been named.

Expert opinion

Olivia has captured the personality of this
little micro pig perfectly, and cropped in for
an effective tight composition. She’s made
good use of a shallow depth of field and the
blurred background isolates the subject.
The processing on the pig is a little dark,
and maybe a tad more fill-in of the shadows
in the raw editor would have lifted it
up – but it’s nonetheless a great image.

Frame it on-screen

A tilting screen is one of those
innovations you can’t imagine
doing without. In situations
like this, where there’s little
room behind the photographer,
it means you don’t have to get
down and dirty to get a shot –
ideal when you’re up close
and personal with cattle.
