The Moon
The moon lights up the night sky. It takes 24 hours to travel around Earth, so you
cannot see it in the daytime. Sometimes the moon looks narrow, and sometimes it
looks round. The appearance of the moon has to do with the position of the sun. If
the sun and moon are on the same side of Earth, the moon looks dark. This is
called a new moon. If the sun and moon are on different sides of Earth, the moon
looks round. This is called a full moon. In the middle of these two periods, half the
moon is lit, and half is dark. It takes about a month to finish the whole cycle.
