Listen to each sentence and identify it as a statement (S) or question (Q).

Listen to the answer and ask the corresponding question, as in the example.


Example:

During the pause you will say: TA shì xuésheng ma?
You will hear the correct question: TA shì xuésheng ma?

  1. Substitution drill I (Use and Structure notes 1.3, 1.4, 1.5)


You will hear a sentence in Mandarin followed by a word or phrase. Replace the subject of
the sentence with this word or phrase to form a new sentence, as in the example.


Example:
You will hear: WI shì xuésheng. (tA)
During the pause you will say: TA shì xuésheng.
You will hear the correct response: TA shì xuésheng.

  1. Substitution drill II (Use and Structure notes 1.3, 1.4, 1.5)


You will hear a sentence in Mandarin followed by a word or phrase. Replace the object of
the sentence with this word or phrase to form a new sentence, as in the example.


Example:
You will hear: WI shì xuésheng. (lFoshC)
You will say: WI shì lFoshC.
You will hear the correct response: WI shì lFoshC.
