  1. Easy to do/hard to do (Use and Structure note 13.6)


You will hear a statement saying that some activity is easy or difficult. Restate it, saying that
the activity is easy to do or hard to do, as in the example. English translations are provided
for the example sentences to help you understand the difference in meaning between the
two forms.


Example:
You will hear: 學中文很容易。
Studying Chinese is very easy.
You will say: 中文很容易學。
Chinese is easy to study.
You will hear the correct response: 中文很容易學。

  1. Indicating sequence (Use and Structure note 13.10)


You will hear two actions that are part of a series of directions to a location. Indicate that the
first action happens first and the second action happens afterward by adding xiAn before
the first verb phrase and 再 before the second verb phrase, as in the example.


Example:
You will hear: 你 guò 馬路,wFng bGi 走。
(You) cross the street, go north.
You will say: 你 xiAn guò 馬路,再 wFng bGi 走。
First cross the street, then go north.
You will hear the correct response: 你 xiAn guò 馬路,再 wFng bGi 走。
