RICHARD CRAWFORD

Richard Crawford is a Distinguished University

Professor of Musicolog y Emeritus at the University

of Michigan. A past president of the American Musi-

cological Society, he is also editor-in-chief of Music

of the United States of America (MUSA), a series of

critical editions. His books include The American

Musical Landscape (1993) and America’s Musical Life:

A History (2001).

LARRY HAMBERLIN

Larry Hamberlin is Associate Professor of Music at

Middlebury College, where he teaches courses in

Western classical music, American music, jazz, and

popular music. He is the author of Tin Pan Opera:

Operatic Novelties in the Ragtime Era.
