STEP 3: RESEARCH THE DETAIL
This does not mean that you should start rereading the passage from the beginning to find the reference to “unremarkable details.”
Focus your research. Where does the author mention Holmes? You should have noted when you read the passage that the author
discusses Holmes in the second paragraph. So scan the second paragraph for the reference to “unremarkable details.” (Hint: You can
find the reference in lines 17–20.)
DO THE RESEARCH
Do not try to answer questions just from your memory—glance at the passage again.
Another mistake to avoid is answering questions based on your memory. Go back and do the research. Generally, if you can answer
questions based on your memory, you have spent too much time on the passage.
