EQUATIONS
The key to solving equations is to do the same thing to both sides of the equation until you have your variable isolated on one side
of the equation and all of the numbers on the other side of the equation.
First, subtract 8 from each side so that the left side of the equation has only variables.
Then, add 3a to each side so that the right side of the equation has only numbers.
Finally, divide both sides by 15 to isolate the variable.
DON’T FORGET
Always do the same thing to both sides to solve for a variable in an equation.Sometimes you are given an equation with two variables and asked to solve for one variable in terms of the other. This means that
you must isolate the variable for which you are solving on one side of the equation and put everything else on the other side. In other
words, when you’re done, you’ll have x (or whatever the variable is) on one side of the equation and an expression on the other
side.
Since you want to isolate x on one side of the equation, begin by subtracting 2y from both sides.
