A FEW POINTS TO KEEP IN MIND
As more people take the test, it becomes more competitive, and the scores needed for admission go up. Most likely, next year’s
cutoff scores will be higher than this year’s cutoff scores.
In recent years, cutoff scores have been in the 500−600 range. Although raw scores are not directly proportional to scaled scores,
the fact that the cutoff scaled scores are mostly in the 500s tells you that test takers who are getting lots of questions wrong are
getting into the specialized high schools. It’s a difficult test and you need to do well to get into one of the schools, but you are
expected to get questions wrong. Therefore, as you practice, don’t be demoralized just because you don’t know how to answer all
the questions. Just do your best and learn from your mistakes.
