  1. (A) Whorf’s linguistic relativity hypothesis holds that language influences (or, in its initial
    pronouncement, determines) thought. Therefore, referring to women as “girls” could affect the way
    people think about women. Bandura’s social learning theory explains how people learn by
    modeling the behavior of others. The nativist theory of language refers to Chomsky’s school of
    belief that human beings are wired in such a way that we learn language quickly and easily. Signal
    detection is a perceptual theory and arousal theory has to do with motivation.
