  1. (D) In people, rods, unlike cones, have a lower absolute threshold for light; that is, rods function in
    conditions of dimmer light than do cones. Rods are located on the periphery of the retina, do not
    respond to color, and are good at detecting motion. Both rods and cones synapse with bipolar
    cells.
