  1. (E) Punishments are defined as stimuli that decrease the likelihood that an organism will perform
    the behavior that preceded the punishments. Negative reinforcements reinforce a behavior,
    increasing the likelihood the behavior will be repeated. They reinforce the behavior by taking
    away an aversive stimulus (e.g., an aspirin takes away a headache, which makes the person more
    likely to take an aspirin in the future).
