something being ended or stopped, say, “ was/were not
abolished.”

every week for the rest of the year.” (Weekly nature walks were
not abolished.) - The president promised to do away with several taxes. (Those
taxes were abolished.) - Sandy told her brother that he was no longer allowed to use
the basketball in the house. (Basketball in the house was
