Lesson Objectives
Core Content Objectives
Students will:
Identify geographical features of the earth’s surface: oceans and
continents
Locate the North Pole, the South Pole, and the equator on a globe
Describe the shape of the earth
Explain that much of our knowledge of the earth and its history
is the result of the work of many scientists
Language Arts Objectives

Students will:
Draw pictures and write simple sentences to depict details from
the read-aloud “Our Home, Earth” (W.1.2)
Clarify directions by asking classmates about the directions for
an activity in which they are drawing a scene from the read-
aloud (SL.1.3)
Write and illustrate details from the read-aloud “Our Home,
Earth” and discuss with one or more peers (SL.1.5)
Discuss personal responses to what is inside the earth
Identify new meanings of familiar words, such as stick, and
apply them accurately
