nize that the vast majority of students participating in sports
at the Division III level are receiving substantial financial aid
packages. The fact is, NCAA Division III colleges very often
provide financial aid for athletic ability. Here is how some
timid recruiting education publications and sites deal with
the reality of Division III financial aid for athletic ability:
Recruiting 101 states that, “While you hear some rumors
that some (Division III) do, it is not true. What the coaches
can do is find creative ways to give their most sought after
prospects money in different areas.” That’s not financial aid
for athletic ability? Likewise, college-athletic-scholarship.
com states that, “Division III schools do not offer athletic
scholarships, however, the coaches at these schools often
know of handsome academic scholarships and grants you
might be eligible for.” And that statement, too, does not
describe financial aid for athletic ability? Give me a break!
Supercollege.com, slightly more forthcoming, says, “Division
III schools do not offer athletic scholarships. These schools
do also consider athletic achievement when deciding to offer
