Set 3:
Francis Scott Key wrote a poem while watching the attack on Fort
McHenry.
Andrew Jackson led the army in the Battle of New Orleans.
This poem later became a song known as “The Star-Spangled
Banner,” which is now our national anthem.
Key watched the American flag at Fort McHenry during the entire
battle.
He was inspired to write the poem when he saw that the flag was still
waving at Fort McHenry the morning after the battle.
