Greek Myths Journal (Instructional Master 6B-1) 15 minutes
- Tell students that this page of their journal will be about the
Greek myth “Daedalus and Icarus.” - Show students Instructional Master 6B-1. Have students
describe what they see in the illustration. Have students share
about the characters in this myth. - Read the title line together “Daedalus and Icarus.” Then have
students write two or three sentences about this myth. - Students may draw a picture about their sentences on the back
of the page. - Allow time for students to share their journal entries with a
partner or with their home-language peers.
Which Happened First? (Instructional Master 6B-2) 15 minutes
- Tell students that you are going to play a game called “Which
Happened First?” You will read a pair of sentences that you
have written on chart paper or sentence strips. Each sentence
begins with a blank. One volunteer will choose which sentence
happened fi rst in the story and write the word First on the blank
before that sentence. Then another volunteer will write the word
Then on the blank before the sentence that happens second in
the story. - Alternatively, you may wish to give a pair of students a set of
First, Then sentence strips and have the class decide which
event happened fi rst. Then have the students physically position
themselves in the order of story events until all eight sentence
strips are in order.
