Introducing “Diddle, Diddle, Dumpling”

- Tell students, “Describe this picture to your partner. What is the boy
doing? What is he wearing?” Call on two partner pairs to describe the
picture. - Tell students that the next nursery rhyme they are going to hear is
called “Diddle, Diddle, Dumpling.” Tell students that the character in
this poem is called John. - Ask students, “Do you go to bed with your socks on?”
- Give students Response Card 14 (Diddle, Diddle, Dumpling) of
Instructional Master 7A-1. Have them point out the character in
this nursery rhyme. Tell them to use this Response Card to refer to
“Diddle, Diddle, Dumpling.”
