Introducing “Little Bo Peep”

- Ask students, “Do you know the name of this animal? Have any of you
seen a real sheep? What do you know about sheep?”
[Encourage students to say what they see about the sheep, e.g., it has
four legs, it has soft wool, etc.]
Show image 8A-2: Bo Peep looking for sheep - Tell students that the next nursery rhyme they are going to hear is
called “Little Bo Peep.” The character in this poem is a girl called Bo
Peep. - Ask students, “What is Bo Peep doing?” [Have students act like they
are looking for something.] - Ask students, “Can you guess what she is looking for?” Call on two
students to answer. - Tell students, “Tell your partner about a time you looked for something
but could not find it. What were you looking for? How did you feel
when you could not find it?” Allow thirty seconds for students to talk.
Call on two volunteers to share their experience. - Give students Response Card 15 (Little Bo Peep) from Instructional
Master 8A-1. Have them point to the character of the poem—Bo Peep.
Tell them to use this Response Card to refer to “Little Bo Peep.”
