the question, and then I will ask you to turn to your partner and discuss
the question. Finally, I will call on several of you to share what you
discussed with your partner.
Sentence Frames

Word Work: Characteristics
- In the read-aloud you heard, “Each season has its own special
characteristics.” - Say the word characteristics with me three times.
- Characteristics are special qualities or traits that make a person or
thing different from others. - Some characteristics of my friend are that he is funny and smart.
- What are some characteristics of the person sitting next to you? Try
to use the word characteristics when you tell about them.
[Ask two or three students. If necessary, guide and/or rephrase the
students’ responses: “Some characteristics of [name of student]
are . . .”] - What’s the word we’ve been talking about?
