alling all bakers! We’re joining forces with No Kid Hungry,

a national campaign to end childhood hunger in the

United States. One in 6 children in the US faces hunger. It

happens every day, in every community. Hosting a bake sale is an easy,

effective way to raise funds for this worthy cause.

More than 12 million children in our nation live in “food insecure”

homes. This means that those households don’t have enough food

for every family member to lead a healthy life. In some families, the

pantry is completely empty. In others, parents skip dinner a few nights

a week so the kids can have something to eat in the evening. In others,

families are making the impossible choices between paying rent and

buying groceries.

Bake sales are for more than just school-age kids. Bake Sale for No

Kid Hungry bakers range from parents, grandparents, lawmakers,

educators, CEOs, culinary professionals, and magazine editors from

across the nation. Since 2003, more than 1.5 million people have

participated in Bake Sale for No Kid Hungry, raising nearly $12

million to help make sure that all children in America get the food

they need. Whether baking is your profession or hobby, put your

passion and skills toward a greater cause through charity fundraising.

Every $10 you raise can feed a child up to 100 healthy meals.

Bake Sale for No Kid Hungry is proof that even dessert can make a

difference. We’re urging bakers to unite for a nationwide day of action

on Saturday, August 3. Join the Bake from Scratch team at our bake sale

in Birmingham, Alabama (see page 85 for details), or host your own

bake sale on the same day. Let’s blanket the country in bake sales

in an allied effort for this worthy cause. We’ve created four recipes

we endorse as bake sale-ready. Plus, we’re sharing a doable timeline

to get you ready for your bake sale as well as pricing and packaging

suggestions. Every slice, cookie, and crumb counts. Whether you’re

on the giving or receiving end of a bake sale transaction, service

doesn’t get any sweeter than this.
