SECRETS FROM OUR (VIRTUAL)
We’re still not in our office test kitchen (how we miss it), but every delicious. recipe
is put through its paces in the food team’s homes and circulated via pictures (while
the rest of us salivate!). Food editor Jen Bedloe shares her favourite supermarket

HOT ON THE SHELVES
SLICE LIKE A CHEF
Using a mandoline gives you slices
that look professional, but the real
advantage for me is that it’s much
quicker than using a knife and the even
slices cook at the same speed (I’m
looking at you, dauphinois potatoes).
I tested the new Microplane adjustable
V-blade slicer with
julienne feature – a handy
two-in-one tool (great
from a space-saving
point of view and it fits
in the utensil drawer).
Unlike bulky traditional
mandoline slicers, this
is held in one hand while
the other does
the slicing, and
it has the usual
ergonomic
Microplane grip.
There’s a guard
to protect your
fingers, and
you can swap
between the
slicing and
julienne blades
fairly swiftly.
VERDICT Quality
kit, worth the
price tag.
