GOURMET TRAVELLER 27
News
Melbourne’s Harper & Charlie produces vintage-style prints of landmarks. Illustrator James Tyrrell,
working with partner Shannon Anderson, was inspired to preserve significant sites in print after
an art deco gem, Clifton Hill’s United Kingdom Hotel, was turned into a fast-food joint. Some of
his visual tributes have been shortlisted in the World Illustration Awards. harperandcharlie.com
MIX WITH RUM
Dark rum runs through the veins of Bundaberg, but the Queensland food bowl produces a dazzling
range of food and drink beyond the eponymous spirit. Taste Bundaberg Festival, spanning four
weekends between May and August, celebrates the region’s bounty – comprising an estimated
quarter of all Australia’s fresh food – and the work of farmers, graziers, fishermen, chefs and
brewers. Events include DIY gin-making at Kalki Moon Distilling Company, farmers’ markets and
the launch of a community-made cider at Ohana Cider House. After the opening weekend last
month, the festival continues on 7-9 June, 5-7 July and 16-18 August. tastebundabergfestival.com.au
