somethingI’myettoreconcile.I really
wanttogototheGalápagos,Japan
andSouthAmerica.Therearesomany
placesI’dlovetoseeandexplorestill,
butI havetobalancethiswithmy
conscience about the planet.
There’ssomuchofAustraliaI’dliketosee
- I feellikeI haven’treallyscratchedthe
surface,soI wouldliketocapitaliseon
that.I’dlovetogototheTopEnd.So
whoknows,if we’restuckinAustralia,
it’s a pretty great place to be stuck!
Whenit comestotraveldisasters,I am
usuallyprettyorganisedsoavoidthem.
ButI didhaveonedoozy.I waspregnant
withmysecondson,andwrangling
myfirst.I hadjustgottenoverbowel
cancer,sowedecidedtotreatourselves
tobusiness-classticketstoEurope– we
savedupallthismoneyandwewereso
excited.A fewnightspriorwe’dtrialled
a sleepingaidforkidsonmyson,andhe
sleptsoundly.Thenwegaveit tomyson
ontheflight– andit didn’twork.Infact,
it madehimhyper.Hewasalmosttwo
yearsoldandhestayedawakefor 24
hoursofthe25-hourflight.Wehad
a lotofangerfromeveryonearoundus
- whichis fairenough,theyhadprobably
savedupfortheseflightstoo.Thenin
thelast 20 minutesoftheflight,hefell
asleep.I thenvomitedandwetmypants.
I don’tknowif youwanttoprintthat,
butlet’sfaceit – sometimeswhenyou’re
pregnant,youdothat!ThelessonI learnt
fromthatwholeexperiencewastoalways
manageyourexpectations– not everything
works out and that’s okay.●
