- Click Start, Settings, Control Panel.
- You should see an icon that is titled ODBC Data Sources (32 bit). Double-click it.
- The Data Source Administrator will be displayed. This is where you can adjust or add
new ODBC drivers, as well as create Data Source Names—you’ll get to that in a
little while. - Click the Drivers tab. A list of currently installed drivers will be displayed. If you
haven’t jumped ahead, you shouldn’t see any MySQL drivers there, yet. You should
see a bunch, mostly Microsoft products.
Now that you have seen what drivers are currently installed on your system, it's time to install one more.
On the CD-ROM, included with this book, you should see a folder containing all the downloadable
products from the MySQL Web site. Look for the ODBC zip file. It should be named something like
myodbc-2.50-24-win95.zip. Make sure you have WinZip installed (on the CD-ROM as well).
Double-click the file and the self extraction program should begin. Perform the following steps to install
the MyODBC driver onto your machine.
- After the extraction process begins, the install program should run. The first screen
you should see should be similar to Figure 13.1.
Figure 13.1 The MyODBC installation program.
- Click continue. The install drivers dialog box should appear, as shown in Figure 13.2.
Click MySQL and then click OK.

- The program files will then be copied to your hard drive. This will take a couple of
seconds. You should then see the dialog box shown in Figure 13.3.
