So, we have briefly examined the five great issues of govern
ment. As we examine the political views of twelve great philoso
phers, we will see that they address each of those problems.
Certainly time, place, and circumstance will color their analysis.
Certainly the changes that have occurred which affect us all will
have to be taken into consideration. But the basic premises, the
universal concepts, the ideas which underlie their thinking and
affect ours, will be worthy of consideration. Indeed, their thoughts
are worthy of serious study, careful examination, honest discus
sion, and tolerant understanding.
