Alpine blooms
There’s a lot going on in this scene,
so I chose just three Alpine flowers
to work into the foreground. There
are many beautiful species to choose
from, but for a splash of summer
colour I went for these vibrant
orange poppies as the main bloom,
with purple Michaelmas daisies and
fresh white daisies for contrast.
The simple life
I love the idea of a rustic mountain
chalet, with a cosy fire and those
stunning views to wake up to each
morning. Many chalets in the Alps
have been given a five-star makeover
and hardly resemble the traditional
wooden cottages any more. I wanted
my chalet to have a down-to-
earth, old-fashioned feel – note the
traditional red shutters and balcony.
LESLEY TEARE’S
Designer Secrets
“Whether or not you’re lucky enough to be
jetting off to the mountains this summer,
you’re sure to enjoy the snowy peaks in
Lesley’s design. Worked mainly in whole
stitches, it’s a great project for intermediate
stitchers looking for their next challenge.”

Cross Stitch Gold 31
For a faster finish, you
could work the sky in
half cross stitch, which
would result in a less
dense covering of
the fabric
