Meet the designer
Lesley Teare
Lesley is an experienced
cross stitch designer with
a degree in Printed and
Woven Textiles, and many
years of design experience.
She creates designs for a
wide range of stitching
magazines, and has a
range of cross stitch books
to her name, too. Lesley
lives and works in rural
Suffolk, where she enjoys
gardening and country
walks with her labrador.
“Furry kittens, hearts,
flowers and butterflies
- these cards certainly
have the ‘aaah’ factor,
while pretty pastel
shades give them a
vintage nursery feel.”
Stitcher’s guide
These designs are worked on 28-count
white evenweave over two threads of the
fabric in 24 shades of stranded cotton.
Cross stitch is in two strands of thread, with
a few fractional stitches for extra detail.
Backstitch defines the designs in one strand
of thread, and there is also one French knot
in one strand for the lettering. This project is
recommended for intermediate stitchers.
How to stitch the designs
1
Find the centre of your fabric by folding
it in half both ways. Find the centre of
the chart and start stitching here.
2
Work the cross stitch over two threads
of the fabric using two strands of cotton.
For every tiny symbol you see on the chart,
work a fractional stitch.
3
Work the backstitch detail using one
strand of cotton.
4
Work the French knot using one strand
of cotton.
5
Check over your stitching and prepare
for making up.
