STEP FOUR: THE BURGER
Next we’ll make our tasty burger. Still using
the Rectangle tool, click-and-drag out a burger
to your desired thickness, making it wider
than the bun.
Using the rounded corners option again, just
click on any single dot (don’t double-click it this
time) and drag it in as far as it will go; this will
nicely round all four corners of your burger at
the same time. Then, select your burger color
from the Swatches panel.

STEP FIVE: THE TOMATO
Draw another rectangle shape for the tomato,
making it narrower than the bun, but don’t
round the corners this time. Select the lighter
red swatch in the Swatches panel. Don’t worry
about the order or placement of the ingredients
at this point; we’ll rearrange the components
after they’re all made. You can also later adjust
the thickness or width of any item, such as the
burger. Here’s what it looks like at this point
with the grid turned off. Tip: You can quickly
turn the grid off and on using the shortcut
Command-’ (PC: Ctrl-’).

STEP SIX: THE PICKLES
Now draw out two small, flat, green pickles using
the Rectangle tool. Make them half the height of
a full grid square and don’t round the corners.
Place them on the left and right equidistant from
the center. Ours line up with the outer edges of
the bun.

STEP SEVEN: THE CHEESE
The next burger item is our slice of cheese. Create
a nice thin cheese slice that’s three quarters of a
grid square high and wider than the burger. Select
your yellow swatch from the Swatches panel.

STEP EIGHT: THE LETTUCE
We’re almost there. We’re going to make our
next two items a little differently. Draw out a
thin rectangle for the lettuce that’s half a grid
square high, making it as wide as the cheese
slice. Then, once you apply the other green color
in the Swatches panel, go to Filter>Distort>Wave.
You’ll be asked to either rasterize the layer or
convert it to a smart object. Select Convert to
Smart Object.
