have been applied, or that you will be applying. This is
indicated by a lightning symbol under the Histogram
on the right. You can see in the illustration here that
there are sliders for Recovery and Fill Light, which are
from Process Version 2 (Process Version 5 is the current
version). Click the lightning symbol to update either the
selected image or all the photos in the Filmstrip. In the
Settings menu at the top of the screen, you’ll also find
options for updating to the current process version, or
choosing other process versions.

Working with the Before & After Views: The third icon
from the left on the Toolbar below the image in the
Develop module opens a menu of different ways to see
a before and after view of a photo. Press Y to toggle
between the normal view of the photo showing the

current Develop settings, and the last selected before/
after view. Option-Y (PC: Alt-Y) will choose the other
variant of the currently selected before/after view. For
instance, if you’re using the Before/After Left/Right
view, Option-Y (PC: Alt-Y) will show the Before/After
Top/Bottom view. If one of the Before/After Split views
is chosen, that shortcut will show the other version of
the split view.

Copying and Swapping Before/After Views: When you’ve
selected a Before/After view, there are three additional
choices that will appear to the right of this on the
Tool bar. These allow you to copy the Before settings
to the After view, copy the After settings to the Before
view, or swap them. These options can be useful if you
want to set up a Before view that’s different from the
default, which is how the image looked when imported.
For instance, if you have the image adjusted to a good
overall state, but want to do some fine-tuning or take it
in a different direction, you could use the second icon
to copy the current After settings to Before. That might
be a more useful comparison than the original image
as downloaded from the camera. In the illustration here,
I’ve copied the initial After state, which represents my
overall adjustments and a Graduated Filter I applied to
