TIRE DESIGNS

There are many tire designs on the market today. What are the most popular
designs? What distinguishes one design from another?

All-Season Tires

All-season tires have two unique characteristics: Their tread design disperses
weather elements out from under the footprint of the tire, and they are made of a
rubber compound that doesn’t freeze.
Their tread design disperses rain, snow, slush, and mud out from under the
footprint of the tire. If you were to observe a typical all-season tread design
under a slow-motion camera as it rolls down the road, you would see two
actions. It squeegees the road surface, and at the same time it pumps water,
snow, and slush out from under the tire. This dual action provides maximum tire-
to-road traction.
The rubber compound that is used for all-season tires does not freeze when
temperatures reach 32 degrees Fahrenheit or 0 degrees Celsius). This
characteristic is essential for the pumping and squeegee actions described above.
