The power brake booster, which is a vacuum-assist unit, is large round black shape in this photo. Engine
vacuum is drawn through the hose that connects to the booster unit. Inside the booster there is a vacuum
diaphragm. When vacuum is applied to the diaphragm it provides power assist to the brake pedal, making
braking easy, as opposed to manual brakes where much more pedal pressure has to be exerted to stop the
vehicle.
