Dear Tom,

Q I own an ‘07 Lexus GS350. The brakes make a metal-to-metal contact

producing a black brake dust on the rims. The dealer changed the pads at
14,000 miles, and the symptoms are still the same at 22,000 miles. Any
suggestions?

Tim,

A The best course of action? Change to ceramic brake pads, put a light cut

to the rotors, and check the calipers for sticking. When brake calipers stick,
the brakes stay applied even when the brake pedal is not applied. This causes
grinding away of the brake pads and thus the production of brake dust and
premature replacement. Ceramic replacement pads will stop the black dust,
dissipate the heat better, and cause less wear on the rotors. Success to you.
