How to Make Your Car Last Forever: Avoid Expensive Repairs, Improve Fuel Economy, Understand Your Warranty, Save Money

Differential fluid is usually clear or slightly amber-colored, but can vary in color by carmaker. As always, the
key to proper inspection is to identify what fluid type the unit is supposed to take, and then compare it to the
original color. Also check for smell and wear material. If the vehicle goes off-road, watch for signs that the
fluid has been contaminated with water, giving it a milky appearance. If this is the case, I would closely
inspect the inside of this differential for wear, as water tends to thin out the lubricant and cause increased
friction.
