Lift the spare tire onto the wheel studs. If it’s too heavy to lift by hand, sit on the ground in front of the wheel
opening and use your feet to help lift the wheel into place. Thread all the lug nuts onto the studs and hand-
tighten them with the lug wrench. Lower the jack until the tread makes contact with the ground, but don’t set
full vehicle weight on it. This way, the wheel won’t spin when you fully tighten the lugs using a crisscross
pattern. Double check that all the lugs are securely tightened, lower the vehicle, stow jack, throw the flat tire
in the back. Tip: Fix your spare as soon as you can, even if it’s not a “mini” spare. If you let it go, you may need
a spare again and not have one.
