COMMON WARRANTY-RELATED TERMS

Understanding a few warranty-related terms will go a long way in helping you
through filing a warranty claim.
Bumper-to-bumper coverage is a comprehensive warranty that normally
covers all items under the basic and drivetrain warranty for the period specified
by the manufacturer. Time and mileage vary with each manufacturer so make
sure you understand time and mileage terms before leaving the dealership.
Powertrain refers to engine components such as the engine block, cylinder
heads, intake and exhaust manifolds, injection systems, flywheels, crankshaft,
and pistons (basically anything related to the powerplant or engine).
Drivetrain refers to anything that drives the wheels, that is, the transmission,
axles, wheel hub assemblies, transfer case, auxiliary gearbox, differential/s,
driveshafts, clutch, pressure plate, throw-out bearing, and so on.
