noise (knocking sound) and my husband thinks the engine is bad. What do
you think?

Tamesha—Pennsauken, New Jersey

Tamesha,

A It sounds like the car has a rod knock (engine damage). The quick lube’s

actions could have caused the damage. How long has it been since the oil
change? If you can prove that the oil loss was due to their mis-installation of
the drain plug and that the low oil levels caused the engine damage, then the
quick lube could be held responsible for the damage and have to make it right
for you legally. After verifying the engine damage, consider talking with an
attorney to see if you can take legal action.

Tom,

Q I just moved to a new area and need to find a repair shop. What do I look

for in selecting a shop for auto repair?

Lucille—Astoria, Pennsylvania

Lucille,

A You are smart to find a repair shop before you need it. This way you are

not forced into a making a decision under pressure. Good decisions are never
made when under pressure. Ask your local AAA for a good shop in your
area. If there’s no AAA in the area, visit a few shops in the area. Look for
ASE certification and any other training programs that the technicians might
have attended. Also ask about equipment: Is it up to date? Does the shop
have computer programs to get the latest repair information? Ask to see
letters from satisfied customers. This should be a good guide for you to
follow. Good luck.
