This is another practice that will result in major engine damage. Here’s what happens when you run the
engine with low or no oil; first friction and heat build up from lack of lubrication. Metal mating surfaces that
need lubrication heat up and start to grind away at each other. The ensuing heat causes the engine to
overheat, expansion of the metal takes place, aluminum parts warp or crack, and the engine dies. Sometimes
the bearings get so hot that the crank seizes to the rods and main bearings. In short order, the engine becomes
nothing more than a boat anchor, essentially useless. When you see a low oil light turn on, pull over and stop
the engine to prevent damage.
