ELECTRIC POWERTRAIN
The powertrains of electric vehicles are simple. They consist of a battery pack,
electric motor (or motors, in applications where more than one motor is used),
and a transmission, differential, or gearbox of some sort to transfer power to the
drive wheels.
The mileage range for electric vehicles varies, depending on the type of
battery technology used. In recent years, lithium ion batteries seem to offer the
greatest range. Tesla, an EV manufacturer, boasts an up-to-200-mile range on a
charge. Other EV makers typically quote up to 70 miles. The range will increase
as battery technology evolves.
