In this article, we’re going to deal with the repair, service and
replacement of the speedometers, using common military vehicle
speedometers as subjects (World War II and M-series military vehicles).
In regard to the latter, you should know that virtually all M-series
speedometers are interchangeable, no matter what type of vehicle you
have. In other words, a speedometer from an M38 will work just as well
in an M37, M715 or M35.
There were two primary manufacturers of M-series speedometers and
gauges: Stewart-Warner and AC (Delco). There are only slight differences
in face markings and needle shapes between them, and it would be
logical to assume that most M-series vehicles left their respective
