Surgery
Younger kids may have an operation to insert special
rods alongside the spine, usually those under 10. This will
help avoid the curve from getting worse as the spine
develops. This can either be achieved based on the type
of rods used: during a minor operation where the rods
are stretched by a small incision in the back, using a
remote control that stimulates magnets within the rods-
no incisions are required to lengthen these rods. Even if
the child has surgery, the child will need to wear a brace
to protect their back.
