It is! I cover my kitchen table in a cloth and use water-
based spray paint. There are a lot of trials, but it is so fun
to play with spray paint.How has winning the AOI World Illustration award
impacted your career and the commissions you receive?
It is always so humbling to win awards for my work; they
always help get my name and portfolio in front of those
who may not have found me otherwise.Which of your commissions are you proudest of and why?
My most recent work tends to always be my favourite, as it
is an accurate and recent depiction of my current place
and emotional state.You’ve applied your illustrations to a number of different
objects from jewellery to phone cases. Is there an object
you’d like to work on that you’ve not had chance to yet?
I’m manifesting here, but I’d love to do a handbag
collaboration with Louis Vuitton or Dior for a Lady Dior bag.
I hope one of those comes true in my lifetime.Which new or emerging illustrators’ work have you
admired recently?
I’ll use the term “new” as “new to me being introduced to
their work”. I met Sabrena Khadija while at my Facebook
residency in 2020, back when it was safe to share physical
space with others, and her work – both on and off the riso
[printer] – is beyond incredible.What is the biggest challenge for illustration in 2021?
Continuing to bring emotion, value, and connectivity while
we are still apart.
