I believethisisprobablyan
oleograph– a print
witha surfacethat is
texturedtoresemble
anoilpainting.
Theimagehas a
bluehuewhich is
causedasthe blue
inksaretheleast
resistanttofading.
When the other colours fade the
blues become dominant.
This can be seen in the
prints of many 20th-century
artists such as Lionel Edwards
or William Russell Flint. An
original Montague Dawson
can fetch six gures, alas this
oleograph is likely to be worth
less than £50. TJF

The tubelining
on Jan’s vase
has echoes
of Moorcroft.
While Claire’s painting
may appear to be an
oil, it is actually
an oleograph,
says Thomas
Jenner-Fust.
