‘Wefounda batteredbarndoorata reclamationyard,’
saysZara.‘Ourbuildersremovedthelock,cleanedup
thewoodandturnedit intoa tabletop.Thebenches
camefromanoldpotteryworkshopandarestainedin
claypowder– I lovetheirsoft,wornpinktone.’Upstairs,
thereis a hiddengeminsidethebedroomcupboard
bythewindow– anemergencyropewithwrittensafety
instructionsonanoldpieceofcard.‘It’sa littlepiece
ofhistorythatbelongstothecottage,’shesays.
