My Studio Table, oil on board 20 3 20in (51 3 51cm).
I always enjoy this stage – pulling the whole thing together with both stronger tone
and colour. Further layers of thicker oil colour were added, again with a small amount
of linseed oil added to the mixes. After further definition of the brushes, small art box
and other various objects, I added a cream background, which echoes some of the
colour already used and helps to create unity across the painting

of unity throughout the painting, and
some of this ground colour may show
through in the finished piece’
