ThecouplefirstcameacrosstheirlistedGeorgian
farmhousewhentheychosetobookinasguests– it
wasbeingrunasa bedandbreakfast.‘We’ddecided
wewantedtogiveourdaughter,Tamar,thensix,a country
upbringing,sowe’dcometoSomersetona house-
huntingweekendtolookfora newhome,andpromptly
fellheadoverheelsinlovewiththishouse.Wewere
attractedbyitspositionsurroundedbysevenacres
offieldsandunspoiltviews,andweloveditsflagstone
floors,stunningGeorgiansquarerooms,highceilings
andoriginalsashwindows,neversupposingwewould
onedayownit,’saysFrances.‘Whenweweretoldthe
housewasforsalewewereoverthemoon,but gutted
attheprice.It waswayoverourbudget.’
OverthenextsixmonthsFrancesandAndrewscoured
theWestCountrylookingforalternatives,butcouldn’t
