Work the WS row once more and
begin turning the heel: continue
the reinforced pattern as estab-
lished. Work until 10 (11) sts remain
at the left end. Skp (= slip 1
knitwise, k1, pass slipped st over),
turn work. Slip 1, p8 (10), p2tog,
turn work. Slip 1, work to last 9 (10)
sts, skp. Continue in this manner,
decreasing at the ends with 10 (12)
sts in the middle. When only the
middle sts remain, divide the sts to
two needles, 5 (6) sts each. Knit the
5 (6) sts at right. You are now at the
midpoint of the heel flap (= begin-
ning of round).
K5 (6) sts on needle I. Pick up and
knit 14 (15) sts from the left end of
the heel flap + 1 st from between
the heel flap and needle II. Knit the
sts on needles II and III. Pick up and
knit 1 st from between needle III and
the heel flap + 14 (15) sts from the
right end of the flap. K5 (6). 70 (80)
sts now on the needles.
Work stockinette st in the round and
begin gusset decreases: at the
end of needle I, k2tog; at the begin-
ning of needle IV, skp. Repeat the
decreases every 2nd round until 15
(17) sts remain on each needle.
When the sole measures 19 (21) cm
or the sock covers your fifth toe,
begin toe decreases. At the end of
needles I and III, k2tog, k1; at the
beginning of needles II and IV, k1,
skp. Decrease as established on
every 2nd round until 5 (6) sts
remain on each needle. Then work
the decreases on every round.
When 8 sts remain, break yarn, pull
it through the sts and securely
weave in.
Knit the other sock in the same
manner.
Design: Novita / Essi Isokoski
beginning of round is between
needles I and IV. Work reverse
stockinette st for 4 rounds and then
ribbing for 10 cm.
Knit 2 rounds, evenly decreasing 8
sts = 40 sts.
Work stockinette st in the round and
begin the thumb gusset. Work
needles I and II. On needle III k1,
increase 1 st (= knit the strand of
yarn between the sts through the
back loop). K3, increase 1 st, work
to end of round. Work 2 rounds
even, then repeat the increases,
now with 5 sts between them.
Continue in stockinette st, working
the increases as established on
every 3rd round 3 more times.
There are 2 sts more between the
increases after each time (5
increase rounds in total = half the
number of sts on one needle, with
the gusset now at the base of the
thumb).
After the last increases, work 1
round. Work the next round up to
the gusset. Leave the 13 gusset sts
on hold. Cast on 3 sts at the gusset.
Continue in stockinette st until the
glove reaches the base of your little
finger.
Now knit the little finger. Pick up 5
sts from the beginning of needle I
(back), cast on 3 sts between the
little finger and the ring finger, pick
up 5 sts from the end of needle IV
(palm) = 13 sts. Divide the sts over
three needles and work stockinette
st in the round until the glove almost
covers your nail. Top de c r e a s e s: at
the end of each needle k2tog until 3
sts remain. Break yarn and pull it
through the sts. Securely weave in.
Move the sts you left on hold onto
the needles and pick up 3 sts from
the base of the little finger. Work 3
rounds in stockinette st with all 33
sts.
Ring finger: pick up 4 sts from the
back, cast on 3 sts between the
ring finger and middle finger, pick up
5 sts from the palm and the 3 sts
from the ring finger cast-on = 15 sts.
Work like the little finger.
Middle finger: pick up 4 sts from
the back, cast on 3 sts between the
middle finger and index finger, pick
up 5 sts from the palm and 3 sts
from the base of the ring finger = 15
sts. Work as established.
Index finger: pick up the remaining
12 sts and 3 sts from the base of
the middle finger = 15 sts. Work as
established.
Thumb: divide the sts on hold over
two needles and pick up 5 sts from
the base of the thumb using a third
needle = 18 sts. Knit 1 round with all
sts. On the 2nd round, k2tog at the
picked-up sts at the thumb base.
Knit the 3rd round. On the 4th round
decrease 1 st as on round 2. Work
stockinette st with the remaining 16
sts until the fabric covers half your
thumb nail. Work the top decreases
as established.
Left glove
Work like right glove but work the
thumb gusset at the end of needle
II.
